perseid meteor shower

Tonight is the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Its caused by the earth passing through the end of the tail of the comet Swift-Tuttle, a fragment of dust left over from 1862. The shower will appear to be coming from the constellation Perseus (hence "Perseid"), although it can be seen all over the sky.

Click here for a map of the sky tonight

Unfortunately, the moon will be relatively high and near Perseus tonight, so visibility won't be the easiest thing in the world. But you can still see it, so get as excited as I do every summer.

Off topic but whatever... this is an awesome video of the milky way rising in Texas. Yeah, we live in that thing.
